Poole Carnival update

Hi again folks.

As promised here is a brief update on where we are at this stage with the Poole Carnival.

POOLE CARNIVAL CHARITY FAIR

Stalls coming in fast and a few more in the queue but we still have room for plenty more. We are particularly looking for clothes and jewellery stalls and a few more charities. Plenty of food outlets to prevent you getting hungry.

POOLE CARNIVAL FLOWER SHOW

We have apparently found a marquee at a reasonable price so the Flower Show is definitely on and invites have been sent out to all the usual tenders but the event is also open to the public with all sorts of groups (not just floral) so check out the website for details of what you can enter and how.

FUNFAIR and BAR

Once again we have several providers of rides and amusements for all ages with thanks to all concerned. Everything from giant inflatables, penalty shoot-outs, tea cup rides, trampolines and hopefully dodgems. Oh and we have a bar too so you can refresh yourself whilst being entertained.

ENTERTAINMENT

We have several applications from dance groups, majorettes and cheerleaders but not enough from bands and singers. We are trying to get the correct mixture of entertainment for you with bands and singers up on the balcony for everybody to see and the dancers and live performances in the display arena at ground level. If you know anyone who wants to join in and show off their talents then get them to contact us soon and they may be included in the program of events for the day.

POOLE CARNIVAL PROGRAM

This year to save some money we are doing things slightly different. On Carnival Day itself we will be given out free A5 glossy programs telling you what’s on and where. These will also be available in local shops around the area just before Carnival Day. We currently have an opportunity for 4 companies to help sponsor this program by advertising on the reverse for just £50 in advance.

POOLE CARNIVAL PROCESSION

As mentioned before we will NOT be holding a motorised procession through the town this year in a bi to save money. We appreciate this was a very popular part of the carnival and hope we can re-introduce this maybe next year. In the meantime the committee are looking at a non-motorised procession at Branksome Recreation Ground on Carnival Day. We are still playing with the actual details but hope it will be in the format of best decorated entries in the following categories: Shopping Trolley (we are hoping to talk to our friends at Waitrose on Ashley Road about sponsoring a competition in this category so they get their shopping trollies returned complete). Other groups will include Prams/Pushchairs, Bikes, Wheelchairs, Mobility Scooters, Scooters, Wheelbarrows. You can enter as an adult, child (with parental permission), mixed age group, young groups or society (eg: Brownies/Guides/Scouts/Cubs etc). There will also be a FANCY DRESS COMPETITION. The theme for all of this is THE SEASIDE so get your thinking caps on and get on with you planning. As soon as the entry forms are confirmed they will be posted on our website for you to download and enter.

FUNDRAISING FOR POOLE CARNIVAL

We have just purchased a bulk supply of FROZEN toys so we can take our gazebo and tombola to other events in the area to raise much needed funds and awareness of our events. So if you want to try and win a giant Olaf, Sven or Anna/Elsa toy then find out where we will be and come and support us. Tickets are only 50p each and there are 96 prizes to be won, with all the money raised going to pay for this year’s events and hopefully secure safe grounding for next year too.

DON’T FORGET THE CHARITY WE ARE SUPPORTING DIRECTLY THIS YEAR IS THE PARKSTONE SEA CADETS. So help us support a charity very local to you.

FINALLY (I promise)

I want to thank anybody and everybody for supporting us and hope you will continue to do so. We started this as a on-off in 2014 and due to it’s surprising popularity we have managed to keep it going but after last year it’s been difficult to find the funds to put any event on for you this year but the committee are very dedicated and somehow we have managed to continue.

Welcome to Poole Carnival Blog

Follow all the latest goings on right here in the lead up to the 2017 Poole Carnival taking place this year Sunday 6 August 2017

We have agreed to change from a motorised procession through Parkstone to  a smaller event as part of the Charity Fair at Branksome Recreaton Ground to include fancy dress, walking trolleys, prams, pushchairs and much more. We are just playing around with the finer particulars but believe this will encourage more people to enter either as a solo entry or in groups as this will cost very little if anything to enter.

Stalls are coming in fast so if you want a stall fill out your application form and send it off before you are too late. There will be the popular Coles Funfair included this year with all your favourite rides.

We are currently pushing time to include the popular Flower Show as we are unable to get a cheap marquee to hold this in or any sponsorship to cover the current price for one. If you are able to help with this or interested in any of our sponsorship packages contact me urgently.

We are also looking for people who want to be included in our entertainment program and looking to switch between small groups or singers on the pavilion balcony and larger displays and groups within the arena. Please note though we have NO budget to pay people for their services but offer full support and options to promote you.

Finally the committee have discussed and agreed that the charity we will be supporting this year and welcome on board (literally) will be the Parkstone Sea Cadets who will be around on the day so please help us to help them.
